About the Role: 

 
Graham is seeking a Senior Design Manager to lead the development and execution of major building projects, ensuring the highest standards of design quality, compliance, and cost efficiency. Reporting to the Senior Design Director, you will play a pivotal role in the Pre-Construction process, managing risk, guiding design strategy, and overseeing Consultant teams to ensure seamless project execution. You’ll be responsible for facilitating collaboration between stakeholders and design teams, ensuring the best possible solutions for our clients while maintaining contractual and compliance obligations. 

This role is ideal for a forward-thinking design professional who thrives in high-impact environments and is passionate about shaping innovative, efficient, and compliant design solutions. 

 

As a Senior Design Manager, at Graham you will: 

  • Oversee and enforce design policies, procedures, and compliance requirements

  • Identify and mitigate risks within the design process

  • Guide ongoing design efforts to achieve minimal compliance and cost-effective solutions

  • Conduct area checks, assess layout efficiency, and optimize gross-up factors

  • Manage clash-detection processes to enhance design coordination

  • Ensure timely submission and quality of design deliverables

  • Audit design documents to meet performance specifications and industry quality standards

  • Communicate contract variances and budget impacts to the Commercial team

  • Lead the Design Management of projects from inception through execution

  • Provide expert support to the Pre-Construction Director, Project Director, and Project Execution team

  • Oversee Consultant teams to ensure they meet deliverable deadlines and project milestones

  • Manage the ESDC (Engineering Services During Construction) process during execution phases

 

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Extensive experience in designing and constructing Hospitals and Long-Term Care Facilities preferred

  • Degree in Engineering or Architecture (LEED, PMP, and P.Eng designations are assets)

  • 15+ years of experience in construction design management

  • Knowledge of Lean or IPD projects is an asset

  • Proven success working within Design-Build procurement methods

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and BIM software tools

  • Strong working knowledge of Navisworks (3D & 4D) and REVIT (data extraction, model analysis)
