About the Role:
Reporting to the Planning & Scheduling Director, the Planner / Scheduler is responsible for establishing project schedules for high complexity projects.  Key responsibilities include developing sophisticated schedules, maintaining project schedules, preparing 3-week look- aheads, performance reports and dashboards, driving extension of time claims, carrying out  delay analyses, and aiding with project budgeting, change management, and cash flows.  

 

As a Planner / Scheduler at Graham you will:
 

  • Assist in preparing the project master schedule for major projects in accordance with the contract requirements and company best practices using the Critical Path Method with guidance from the Planning / Scheduling Manager
  • Understand contract obligations as they relate to the project schedule and project milestones, and define and communicate the drivers and interfaces with third parties that may affect such milestones in the schedule basis narrative
  • Work and establish a positive rapport with the client (or client scheduling consultants) to approve and establish a project baseline schedule that reflects the project duration and project milestones as defined in the contract documents
  • Negotiate stringent scheduling specifications to suit the complexity of the project 
  • Prepare schedule updates, including cash flow updates, as per GMS guidelines, and implement and lead the schedule update process when working remotely on a project
  • Carry out schedule revisions when required
  • Perform review and integration of risk registers and labour productivities
  • Report schedule performance in the form of a regularly published Schedule Performance Report that contains progress dashboards, Earned Value Analysis / Schedule Performance Index, S-curves, Heatmaps, Milestone Trend Analysis, Variance Analysis, and areas of concern, and mentor junior Planners / Schedulers in the development of such reports 
  • Identify and communicate areas of risk and opportunity as it relates to the project schedule, participate in response planning, and share past experiences and lessons learned with the project team
  • Highlight the need for corrective action relating to production and lead discussions on such corrective actions, schedule mitigation measures, and resequencing with the project team
  • Define criticality criteria as per the contract documents and identify and communicate critical path and near critical path activities 
  • Identify risks and review with the site team to identify if the risk is acceptable or if corrective action needs to be taken
  • Review schedules prepared by junior Scheduler / Planners and / or non-schedulers to identify quality issues and risks, define optimum risk response plan to complete the project on time, and ensure the schedule is robust and appropriate to support potential extension of time claims
  • Liaise with subtrades and field superintendents for input into the project schedule and look-aheads
  • Possess good understanding of and ability to utilize different methodologies of delay analysis in the industry and work with external delay experts to provide support and oversight for extension of time claims
  • Track and report on schedule float
  • Develop commissioning schedules for complex projects, where applicable 

 

Qualifications:
 

  • Equivalent to completion of a diploma training program at a college or technical school; degree in Engineering or Construction Management is preferred
  • 5+ years of Planning / Scheduling experience in the required field (buildings, healthcare is an asset) 
  • PMP, PMI-SP, PSP designation is an asset
  • Experience working on multiple projects from initiation to close out
  • Experience working on large complex schedules 
  • Planning / Scheduling experience in a variety of delivery methods (Design-Build, CM, PPP, Alliance, etc.)
  • Experience in different delay analysis techniques is an asset
  • Direct exposure to the construction industry is required

 

Compensation:

 

  • Salary range is $100,000 - $140,000 and will be commensurate with education and experience
