About the Role:
 

Are you ready to take your accounting career to the next level? Graham Construction’s BC Buildings Division is looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Operations Accountant to join our dynamic and collaborative team. Reporting to the Regional Operations Finance Controller, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive accounting support for our projects.
 

As an Operations Accountant at Graham you will:
 

  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of transactional accounting processes, reconciliations, and month-end procedures
  • Administer subtrade contracts in compliance with company policies
  • Reconcile and complete owner progress billings, including change orders
  • Oversee timekeeping processes and LEMS reporting, ensuring compliance with union agreements and labor standards
  • Manage accounts receivable collections and support AR reporting and dispute resolutions
  • Provide project input for weekly cash flow forecasts
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and internal controls at the project level
  • Apply knowledge of professional accounting standards, including revenue recognition and accruals
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations and taxes at the project level
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements for accounting processes
  • Support audit work requirements for projects
  • Assist in the development of systems and processes for improvement
  • Provide financial support to projects with revenues ranging from $25M to $50M
  • Support contract management and administration for new entities, JVs, and projects
  • Review project cost reports and prepare job cost analysis
  • Participate in monthly project reviews and job cost forecasting
  • Contribute to management reporting, budgeting, and forecasting for projects
  • Provide monthly project cost reporting and analysis
  • Lead a small team, delegating tasks and providing constructive feedback
  • Demonstrate a passion for continuous improvement and a high-performance attitude
  • Build effective work relationships and meet the expectations of internal and external customers
     

Qualifications and Experience:
 

  • Degree in Commerce, Business, Accounting, or a related field
  • 5-7 years of relevant operations accounting experience in a heavy industry such as construction, mining, engineering, or heavy manufacturing
  • Strong attention to detail and deadline-oriented
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication
  • Strong understanding of project accounting principles and practices
  • Advanced Excel skills and working knowledge of ERP systems (SAP preferred)
     

Compensation and Benefits:
 

  • Competitive salary ranging from $65,600 to $90,200 per annum
  • Compensation will commensurate with education and experience

  • 3 to 5 weeks of vacation per year, with credit for prior industry experience
