Contracts and Commercial Manager - Infrastructure

We are currently seeking a highly skilled Contracts and Commercial Manager to join our progressive Infrastructure Division. This role is pivotal in ensuring effective management of contractual, financial, and commercial aspects throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will work closely with both the pre-construction and project delivery teams, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and with optimal profitability.

 

 

About the Role:

Reporting functionally to the Commercial Director and operationally to Senior Operational Leaders, the Contracts and Commercial Manager will play a leadership role in the contractual and commercial aspects of Graham’s Infrastructure projects. The role will also be responsible for mentoring junior commercial, supply chain and project team members. 

 

As a Contracts and Commercial Manager for Graham you will:

 

Pre-Award of Project Phase:

  • Play a critical role in the work-winning phase of projects by assessing bid documentation to identify risks and opportunities
  • Develop mitigation plans to address risks and ensure compliance with company standards and processes
  • Build strong networks with Legal, Insurance, Finance, and Project Controls teams to incorporate professional input into work-winning activities
  • Leverage contract knowledge and expertise to prepare and negotiate various contracts, including joint venture agreements, design professional agreements, subcontracts, and supplier agreements
  • Ensure all contracts comply with corporate standards and processes
  • Collaborate with the work-winning team to develop tender budgets and contingencies based on risk analysis, ensuring contract documents align with the bid’s risk positions

 

Post-Award of Project Phase:

  • Act as a key steward in transitioning from the work-winning team to the execution team, ensuring project risks and mitigation plans are well understood
  • Implement strategies such as organizational and responsibility matrices, scheduling, staffing, cost control, project controls, and contract/change management
  • Monitor project execution plans and identify, report, and manage deviations, focusing on scope/contract change management, cash flow, revenue, cost, profit & loss, and risk & opportunity positions
  • Engage with internal and insurance experts to lead or assist in claims management, including record-keeping, preparation, and settlement negotiation
  • Support project teams to ensure compliance with Graham’s standards and processes
  • Assist project teams with subcontract drafting, negotiation, and execution of subcontracts, supply agreements, and change orders, while tracking associated risks
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with public and private sector clients, joint-venture partners, financing partners, and key subcontractors
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with customers, design teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups, reflecting Graham’s core values
  • Leverage business acumen to foster collaboration across project management teams and internal functions such as finance, legal, insurance, and project controls

Qualifications/Experience:
 

  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Business or Law
  • 8+ years of construction and commercial management experience working on large ($100M +) construction projects, including stewardship of all contract terms and conditions
  • Advanced knowledge of construction contract administration and the principles of purchasing, finance, and estimating.
  • Strong negotiation skills, including resolution of deficiencies and / or claims
  • Thorough understanding of contract law and detailed experience working with various contract types and forms
  • The Commercial role at Graham is a dynamic role, and strong relationship skills are required to respond to the myriads of issues that will arise daily

Compensation:
 

  • $140,000 to $180,000 per annum
  • Salary will commensurate with education and experience

  • 3 to 5 weeks of vacation per year, with credit for prior industry experience
