About the Role
Reporting to the Occupational Health Director, the Senior Occupational Health Advisor plays a pivotal role in implementing the Integrated Disability Management process and promoting the company’s Health and Wellness initiatives. This position is responsible for managing complex Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) claims, medical leaves, short-term and long-term disability cases, and supporting the Alcohol and Drug program across both Canada and the United States. The incumbent also coordinates effective return-to-work plans, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and internal workplace policies.
As a Senior Occupational Health Advisor at Graham, you will play a key role in managing complex disability cases, supporting employees in their safe and sustainable return to work, and promoting a culture of health and wellness across the organization. This position requires a proactive, detail-oriented professional with strong communication skills and a customer-focused mindset.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage complex disability claims by assessing medical documentation, monitoring progress, and adapting return-to-work (RTW) plans to remove barriers and support employee recovery.
- Collaborate with physicians, specialists, treatment providers, and insurers to gather relevant medical information that informs functional abilities and RTW planning.
- Evaluate correspondence from insurers and determine the appropriateness and impact of decisions.
- Identify the need for additional assessments, accommodations, or support services as necessary to facilitate successful work reintegration.
- Analyze clinical and functional data to make informed decisions on employee fitness for work.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and industry best practices.
- Support workplace health and wellness initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
- Provide exceptional customer service by prioritizing stakeholder needs and demonstrate meticulous attention to detail.
Qualifications/ Experience:
- Strong integrated disability management knowledge with a minimum of 5 Years experience in WCB and Non-Occupational case management.
- A post-secondary education in a health-related field is required, with CDMP, CRTW, or an equivalent designation is considered an asset, as is experience in the construction industry within a medium-to-large organization.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize when situations require escalation beyond personal expertise or authority
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution abilities
- Proven aptitude for effectively prioritizing tasks in a dynamic environment
- Committed to ethical, professional conduct with a strong respect for privacy and confidentiality
