We are seeking top-tier talent to join our Infrastructure division and build innovative projects in the transit and transportation sectors, such as roads, highways/freeways, bridges, interchanges, LRTs, BRTs, and airports. Reporting to the National Environmental Manager (or Senior Regional HSEQ Manager) the Environmental Manager will lead Environmental functions within Graham’s Toronto Transit team. To start the Environmental Manager will take a leading role on the Pre-Construction and Procurement of a new heavy rail GO Station while working closely with the Project Director and Transit Division Lead, the Construction Manager and the Regional HSEQ Manager. The future development of the role will consists of developing Environmental Coordinators and Specialists into more senior level roles and taking part in the overall growth and success of the division, including during Pursuit, Pre-Construction and Construction phases of projects within the Transit portfolio.

 

The Environmental Manager is a key individual who will also support the day-to-day Environmental Management System while working with stakeholders both internally and externally during the project life-cycle.

 

As an Environmental Manager at Graham you will:

  • Ensure the Environmental Management System is implemented across the project in accordance with contractual requirements and Graham’s own internal policy.
  • Lead the team’s monitoring of environmental aspects, including wildlife, discharge water quantity and quality, excavated materials management, impacted  materials, waste management, erosion and sediment control, dust control, spill prevention and spill response, archaeological discoveries, protection of cultural heritage resources; and Sustainability Plan objectives.
  • Enhance and lead the Environmental Management System and the management of any environmental issues during the pre-construction, procurement and delivery phases of the project. This will include overseeing the environmental monitoring and follow-up program in accordance with contractual requirements in addition to reporting, client and third party management and Permitting, Licenses, Approvals and Agreements as required.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with relevant Governmental Authorities and Stakeholders while maintaining the effective operation of the EMS.
  • Perform field inspections, surveys, sampling and walk downs of environment-related activities with your team to assure field activities, conditions, and outcomes correspond with the requirements of all applicable environmental laws and standards, environmental contractual obligations, Environmental Management Plans and Environmental Policy.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of all environmental plans and reports required.
  • Review all environmental plans and reports completed by the team, prior to submission to the client.
  • Monitor and inspect construction activities for compliance with environmental obligations and provide advice and recommendations for improving environmental protection and correct any inefficient practices and/or issues non-compliance when required.
  • Chair the Environmental Working Group meetings with the client and stakeholders.
  • Provide Environmental Awareness and Orientation Training through on-site orientation, toolbox talks and procedure roll-outs while also advising project team members in support of environmental quality standards and legislation.
  • Ensure effective development, tracking and monitoring of environmental metrics and liaise with environmental specialists on environmental matters related to design and construction.
  • Participate/ support the scheduling and planning of internal/external environmental audits.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree or Diploma from a University or Technical College in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering or another related field.
  • P.Eng, CET, and ISO Certifications are all assets.
  • A minimum of 10+ years of Environmental experience within a construction or consulting related field.
  • Knowledge of methods, approaches, and best management practices related to environmental inspections, including experience with MTO Construction Administration and Inspection Task Manual.
  • Prior experience working in TRCA, GO Transit, and TTC areas is considered an asset.
