We are seeking top-tier talent to join our Buildings division and deliver innovative projects in the healthcare, education, hospitality, recreational, entertainment, retail, commercial office, mixed-use, multi-family residential and light industrial sectors. Reporting to the Estimate Manager, the Estimator assists, supports, or leads the estimating team on higher complexity project pursuits, and may also be solely responsible for estimating of Level 2 (<$25M) projects with oversight from a Senior Estimator. The incumbent is accountable for determining project scopes, providing accurate quantifying / costing, managing deadlines, and mentoring the more junior team members, and possesses the ability to interpret all tender documents, work collaboratively, and communicate clearly with the Graham team and with trade partners. The incumbent has basic knowledge of market conditions and historical data required to actively participate in developing strategies to secure work and compile conceptual estimates.

 

 

Essential Functions

 

Execution

  • Determine the project scope of work.
  • Set-up and complete estimate in company standard estimating program.
  • Prepare preliminary construction schedules based on self-perform productivities and subcontractor input to determine project duration and resulting overhead costs.
  • Complete estimate quantification and draft costing of labour including productivities, equipment including productivities, material, and subtrade plugs.
  • Identify and develop constructability requirements for project construction.
  • Analyze design criteria and assist in recommending best options based on cost, engineering quality, and availability of materials.
  • Identify and propose project risk and cost mitigation as well as the potential for project opportunities and cost savings.
  • Analyze and propose potential strategies, advantages, or innovations for the project that could provide Graham with a more competitive bid.
  • Draft application of labour and equipment productivities to estimates based on historically accurate values.
  • Analyze subcontractor bids for irregularities and ensure the full scope of work is included.
  • Participate in or lead the bid close with the oversight of a more senior estimator.
  • Assemble conceptual and budget costs using past project analytics, benchmarking, and historical data.
  • Develop scopes of work for subcontractors to provide budgeting assistance on smaller, less complex projects (or as a team member under a more senior lead).

 

Planning and Process

  • Prepare an estimate schedule of all activities required to complete a fully quantified and costed estimate (or delegated scope) based on a full review of the Estimate Checklist (includes identifying milestone dates and highlighting any required support resources).
  • Lead a small team of support estimators and operational staff, assisting with the planning of their time and  overseeing delegation and quality of work.

 

Financial Accountabilities

  • Provide accurate assessments of risk and scope for completed estimates.
  • Generate and assess risk mitigation plans, including ensuring proper bonding and insurance costing and appropriate contingencies.
  • Select and invite to tender trade partners that are assessed to be financially viable with adequate manpower and appropriate level of expertise to complete the work.
