About the role:

Reporting to Quality Manager, the Quality Specialist is accountable for training and providing assistance and support to Quality Coordinators and project team members in planning, implementation, coordination, and reporting of Quality Management System (QMS) requirements at project level. Essential functions may include involvement in the Tender Quality Assessment (TQA), Project Quality Risk Assessment (PQRA), supporting the development of Project Specific Quality Plans (PSQP), Inspection and Test Plans (ITP), Deficiency Management, Lessons Learned, and a relentless focus on meeting and exceeding internal / external customer needs and expectations.

 

As a Quality Specialist, you will:

  • Assist in conducting pre-install meetings with subcontractors and suppliers prior to the start of a new item of work.
  • Ensure implementation of the Project Specific Quality Plan (PSQP) on project sites by all project stakeholders.
  • Ensure the implementation and the regular updating of the Inspection and Test Plan(s) (ITP).
  • Assist in conducting site inspections to self-performed scopes of work.
  • Conduct random field verification of subcontractor’s quality control activities.
  • Participate in conducting field inspection and testing by third party laboratories / consultants.
  • Manage and track the implementation of the Deficiency Management Process (i.e. initiating Field Surveillance Reports (FSR), Corrective Action Report (CAR), and Non-Conformance Reports (NCR).
  • Review the Field Surveillance Reports (FSR), Corrective Action Report (CAR), and Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) based on frequency and severity of occurrence and findings.
  • Assist in conducting quality orientation of new workers on project sites.
  • Monitor deficiencies brought about by clients, consultants, and / or third-party site observation / inspection.
  • Ensure that Quality Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data for the project is documented.
  • Participate in the Testing and Commissioning process.
  • Ensure all requirements for quality during the handover are met.
  • Assist in the Tender Quality Assessment process with the estimators during the tender stage.
  • Ensure that Project Quality Risk Assessment (PQRA) is conducted for the project upon awarding of project contract.
  • Support the development of Project Specific Quality Plans (PSQP) for projects with inputs from project team members.
  • Support the development of Project Specific Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) with coordination from team members, and solicit subcontractors’ inputs for their scopes of work.
  • Ensure risks identified in the Tender Quality Risk Assessment (TQA) and Project Quality Risk Assessment (PQRA) have been incorporated in the ITP.
  • Assist in identifying quality inspection forms applicable to the project scope of work during the ITP process and require subcontractors to review the forms for their own use.
  • Assist in conducting preconstruction start-up meetings with subtrades and suppliers to inform them of the project quality requirements.
  • Develop training plans and train workers on-site, detailing the requirements of the PSQP.
  • Assist in requesting quality plans and inspection forms from subcontractors and suppliers.

 

Qualifications/ Experience:

  • Trade experience / certifications / diploma; degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of progressive construction experience.
  • Strong technical proficiency in Quality related areas (i.e. ISO 9001, ASME, CWB), related legislation, auditing, and data analysis.
  • Ability to make recommendations, take action, and make proactive decisions based on technical proficiency.
  • Experience and acumen required to anticipate client requirements, work proactively regarding risk and claim management, and work with limited supervision.
  • Experience and acumen required to correctly recognize and escalate issues as required.
  • Solid presentation skills and verbal / written communication skills.
  • Commitment to quality and safety, and ability to evaluate project-related processes.
  • Solid leadership skills with ability and willingness to face challenges, solve problems, and motivate others, while maintaining effective relationships with customers by meeting or exceeding their requirements and expectations.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Proficiency using scheduling and project management software.

 

Compensation:

  • $69,800 - $87,200
  • Salary will commensurate with education and experience.
