Graham is actively recruiting for a Vice President, Equipment, Shops & Yards (VP ESY) to lead the strategy, performance, and growth of our Equipment, Shops & Yards organization. Reporting to the EVP, Services, this role is accountable for optimizing fleet investment, rental and re-rental performance, asset utilization, and operational readiness across a fleet of more than 6,000 assets.
 
The VP ESY partners with executive and operational leaders to ensure fleet capabilities align with business needs while driving commercial performance, capital efficiency, and long-term value creation.

Your Role in Building What Matters – From Office to Site

  • Lead Fleet & Rental Strategy: Establish and oversee fleet investment, rental, re-rental, leasing, and ownership strategies that maximize utilization, availability, and return on assets.
  • Drive Equipment Sourcing Decisions: Lead acquisition and supply strategies that balance owned fleet, rentals, and re-rentals to support project demand while managing cost and risk.
  • Manage Portfolio Performance: Develop strategies that optimize fleet composition, improve asset utilization, and maximize returns across owned and externally sourced equipment.
  • Drive Commercial Performance: Lead pricing, supplier partnerships, and commercial frameworks that strengthen competitiveness, improve margins, and support growth across the business.
  • Oversee Re-rental Performance: Provide governance and direction for third-party re-rental activities to meet project requirements while protecting margin and managing commercial risk.
  • Enhance Supplier Value: Negotiate strategic agreements and strengthen relationships with OEMs, rental providers, and suppliers to improve service, availability, and purchasing power.
  • Optimize Fleet Operations: Oversee fleet utilization, maintenance effectiveness, lifecycle planning, and equipment readiness to ensure safe and reliable project execution.
  • Improve Service Delivery: Establish performance standards that support consistent equipment deployment, logistics, warehousing, and fleet availability across regions.
  • Support Operational Growth: Align fleet capabilities and deployment strategies with business unit growth plans, project demand forecasts, and market opportunities.
  • Build Strategic Partnerships: Develop strong relationships with OEMs, suppliers, and rental providers to improve market access, supply resilience, and business value.
  • Enable Data-Driven Decisions: Leverage performance metrics, analytics, and technology to improve fleet performance, support investment decisions, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Champion Digital Enablement: Support the adoption of fleet management technologies and analytics tools that improve visibility, forecasting, and asset performance.

The Right Tools for the Job

  • Education: Diploma or degree in Business, Construction Management, Engineering, Operations Management, Equipment Management, or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Experience: 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in fleet, equipment, rental, re-rental, construction, or industrial operations. Proven success managing large asset portfolios, supplier relationships, and commercial performance.
  • Leadership Experience: Demonstrated experience leading multi-functional teams, developing operational strategy, and influencing executive-level stakeholders.
  • Technical & Functional Skills: Strong knowledge of fleet lifecycle management, capital planning, rental and re-rental models, asset management, supplier negotiations, performance analytics, and digital fleet management systems. Demonstrated strategic leadership and financial acumen are essential.
  • Commercial Acumen: Strong understanding of equipment pricing models, return-on-assets, investment analysis, and rental market dynamics.

Working Conditions

  • Work Arrangement: Primarily office-based with regular presence at shops, yards, and project locations to support operations, leadership visibility, and stakeholder engagement. Hybrid flexibility may apply based on business needs.
  • Travel Requirements: Regular travel is expected to shops, yards, project sites, regional offices, supplier locations, and industry partner meetings across Canada and the United States.
  • Work Hours: Standard business hours with flexibility required to support operational priorities, supplier negotiations, equipment readiness needs, and leadership activities.
