About the role:

 

Reporting to the Senior Operations Accountant, the Operations Accountant is accountable for providing accounting and transactional support for a project or group of projects. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining project accounting processes, in accordance in accordance with company policies and procedures, to ensure clear, accurate, consistent, and relevant project financial information on a timely basis. The role is focused on executing the work and developing technical skills while gaining experience around managing and delegating tasks. The Operations Accountant is a representative of the Operations Accounting function and is responsible for maintaining strong relationships with the Project Managers and providing key support for projects.

 

This is a temporary position lasting from March to November 2025. The position will work in the Graham office 50% of the time, and work at the client site 50% of the time in the Fish Creek area. 

 

As a Operations Accountant at Graham, you will:

  • Perform general transactional accounting processes, reconciliations, and month-end procedures
  • Administer subtrade contracts in adherence with company policy
  • Prepare owner progress billings (including change orders),e ensuring complete, accurate and timely billings
  • Responsible for complete timekeeping entries and the creation of regular LEMS reporting, in-line with owner requirements and compliant with union agreements and labour standards
  • Monitor and ensure timely accounts receivable collections and deposit of payments.
  • Support and provide project input for consolidated branch/business unit weekly cash flow forecasts.
  • Contribute to the deliverables for audit work requirements (external & client) for project
  • Provide contributory financial support to a project or portfolio of projects with annual project revenues of $25M and annual project revenues up to $50M
  • Demonstrate an understanding of JV/Project contract terms and conditions in relation to project setup, billing requirements, costing, tax compliance, and labour standard/rates
  • Support Operations for Contract Management and Administration including; New Entity/JV/Project setups for AR, billing, and costing
  • Prepare project cost reports to ensure costs are accurately allocated to projects
  • Prepare accounts receivables, subtrade, and change order reconciliations
  • Contribute to monthly project reviews and job cost forecasting as required
  • Support Operations with financial understanding and Competencies
  • Build effective working relationships with members of the Operations team
  • Manage the experience of stakeholders to ensure positive relationships are maintained

 

Education/ Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in Commerce/Business/Accounting or a related field
  • 3-5 years relevant accounting experience 
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Deadline oriented.
  • Strong understanding of Project Accounting principles and practices.
  • Strong Technical accounting proficiency in billing and cost accounting. 
  • Experience in Construction, Engineering or Heavy Manufacturing Industries is an asset
  • Basic understanding of the construction business and what factors drives profitability
  • Strong Excel Skills.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems, SAP preferred.
  • Awareness of UAT testing for systems upgrades and enhancements
  • Basic working knowledge of financial and management/cost accounting systems
