About the role

Graham is seeking a full-time, permanent lawyer to join its fast-paced and dynamic in-house Legal Team. The ideal candidate will be an energetic self-starter, providing timely, accurate, and pragmatic legal support to Graham’s Operational Business Units and Corporate Service Teams.

The role is based out of Graham’s Corporate Office in Calgary. The successful candidate will report to Graham’s General Counsel (Canada). Some travel will be required, typically three to six times per year depending on business need.

 

As Legal Counsel at Graham you will:

  • Provide legal advice respecting a broad range of issues touching all aspects of Graham’s general contracting business.  More specifically:
    • Advise on commercial contracting matters, including supporting project pursuits, supply chain and subcontracting matters
    • Provide project execution support and work to resolve construction disputes of varying complexity, including delay claims, change order disputes, builders’ liens, insurance and surety bond claims, and employment issues
  • Strive to approach issues from a solution oriented, practical, creative, and strategic perspective
  • Collaborate and develop relationships with Graham personnel, executives, and external stakeholders
  • Effectively manage external counsel where necessary
  • Take sole carriage of matters of appropriate complexity and assist senior counsel with more complex matters
  • Deliver training on relevant legal topics to other areas of Graham’s business
  • Support the Legal Team with legal research and template development
  • Develop and maintain intimate knowledge of Graham’s business, internal processes and markets

 

Qualifications/Experience

  • Member in good standing with a Law Society in Canada
  • 3-5 years of experience obtained at a reputable Canadian law firm
  • Direct construction law experience is a significant asset. Employment law experience is preferable, though not required
  • Demonstrate an effective verbal and written communication style
