About the role
Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Financial Accountant (Risk) is responsible for providing accounting and transactional support for all Risk functions within Graham Income Trust (“the Company”) and its subsidiaries. The incumbent is accountable for maintaining accounting processes in accordance with company policies and procedures, to ensure clear, accurate, consistent, and relevant project financial information on a timely basis. The incumbent is focused on executing the work and developing technical skills while gaining experience around managing multiple deliverables and is a representative of the Financial Accounting function responsible for maintaining strong relationships with all stakeholders.
As the Financial Accountant (Risk) at Graham you will:
- Analyze accounts, prepare journal entries, and complete GL/vendor account reconciliations
- Prepare reports and analysis
- Support transactional processes such as data entry, batch processing, and administration of relevant documentation
- Prepare complete and accurate transactional deliverables in a timely manner and provide all necessary backup
- Maintain quarterly reporting of Risk drivers to support renewals, external reporting, reconciliations, and forecasting
- Prepare basic memos and presentations
- Prepare and maintain process documentation
- Recognize and communicate process gaps
- Adhere to procedures, internal controls, and external Financial accounting standards and policies
- Assist in maintaining tools, including testing and implementation as required
- Collaborate with a dynamic group of stakeholders across multiple business functions, including Risk, Finance, and Operations
- Take ownership of all insurance related accounting and reporting matters
Qualifications/Experience
- Degree or Diploma in Commerce / Business / Accounting or a related field
- Working towards a recognized professional designation (CPA)
- 2-3 years of experience in a financial or related role
- Experience working in a public accounting firm involved with construction, insurance, or real estate development is an asset
- Experience working with full cycle & cost accounting, and tax processes
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Deadline oriented
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Internal controls mindset
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Good understanding of accounting principles and practices
- Good understanding of financial statements and ability to perform basic financial analysis
- Proficiency using MS Office Suite
- Experience working with ERP; SAP is preferred
- Awareness of UAT testing for systems upgrades and enhancements
