Jardeg is recruiting a Marine Mechanic to join the SUNCOR Forthills project team on site near Fort McMurray, Alberta. This is a permanent position with a shift rotation of 14 days on, 14 days off shift schedule, with first shift only being 21 days on. Camp accommodations and charter flights (from Calgary or Edmonton) provided by the company. Marine Mechanics will aim at supporting the Marine Support team at Suncor Fort Hills.

The function of this position is, working with the Tailings maintenance team, to ensure that the Fine Tailings marine fleet and the equipment are properly maintained through both short term and long-term maintenance strategies. The Marine Engineer/Mechanic will execute repairs and regular maintenance of our fleet of our workboats, barges, dredges, and associated equipment. As part of the maintenance team, the Engineer/Mechanic will be responsible for troubleshooting problems as well as implementing solutions. A good understanding of shipboard hydraulic propulsion units, winches, & crane systems would be considered an asset.  

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure the vessels and their equipment are maintained in compliance with Suncor’s policies and procedures and Transport Canada Regulations. 
  • The Marine Engineer/Mechanic would be responsible for the maintenance of all shipboard equipment. They must ensure all maintenance is performed and tracked in a timely and cost-effective manner. 
  • Report any defective equipment that requires repair or replacement that affects the safety and seaworthiness of the vessel.  
  • Ensure safety equipment is inspected and kept in good working order. 
  • Work with cross functional teams to execute work. 
  • Carry out maintenance and repairs in the engine room, and deck areas. 
  • Carry out routine inspections of the vessels and their equipment to ensure it is kept in proper working order. 
  • Work with Tailings Maintenance and Operations Team to develop both short term and long-term maintenance programs. 
  • Work with Tailings Maintenance on refit planning and scheduling of maintenance planning. 
  • Keep all machinery spaces clean, neat and tidy at all times.  
  • Attend training as required to meet or exceed the requirement of the job. 
  • Must keep all other certificates current. 

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience as 4th Class Motor Competency or higher  
  • Minimum five (10) years of experience in the marine environment with relevant maintenance and repair experience 
  • CSO (Common Safety Orientation) 
  • CSTS-2020
  • ESC Aerial Work Platform
  • ESC Fall Protection
  • ESC Confined Space Entry & Monitor
  • Overhead Crane and Rigging
  • Valid Full Class 5 Driver’s License
  • 5 years Drivers Abstract
