Jardeg is recruiting Machinist/Millwright Journeypersons for Suncor Firebag project team on site near Fort McMurray, Alberta. This is a temporary position on 14/14 rotation, 12 hours per day starting September 04th, 2025 until December 31st, 2025. 

 

Machinists set up and operate precision metal cutting machining equipment to make and repair products made from metals on equipment shafts, bearing, flanges etc. They work according to very precise specifications. When there are no prints or other specifications, they determine dimensions by logic or by measuring samples using instruments such as micrometers and calipers. Electronic instruments have digital readouts and require the operator to program them for use. Responsible for taking ownership of the shop & Hy torque equipment, Plasma cutter  

 

To perform a typical machining task, Machinists:

 

  • Study specifications, charts, drawings or sample parts to determine the machining operation to be performed,
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances and prepare working sketches, if necessary,
  • Measure and mark metal and other materials,
  • Set up and operate tools, which may be computer numerically controlled, to perform precision machining operations
  • Fit parts to mechanisms and verify dimensions.
  • Read diagrams and schematic drawings and service manuals to determine work procedures
  • Operate rigging equipment and dollies to place heavy machinery and parts
  • Fit bearings, align gears and shafts, attach motors, and connect couplings and belts to precise tolerances
  • Align and test equipment, and make any necessary adjustments
  • Perform predictive and operational procedures
  • Repair or replace defective parts
  • Service and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • May do some tack welding (a weld that is adequate in size to temporarily hold components in place until it can be completely welded by a registered apprentice welder or a Journeyperson welder) and fabrication as well as maintain an inventory of replacement parts

 

Minimum Responsibilities:

  • Overhaul & maintain various types of open cut milling equipment,
  • Perform onsite line boring operations and surface milling procedures on all makes and models of open cut
  • Workshop and field-based machining operations on a wide variety of earth moving components to tight tolerances (such as +/- .0005” in most cases)
  • Repair and maintain Hy torque equipment, baker pumps, glycol coolers
  • Order tools and supplies for the shop
  • I.D bore welding and bore reclamation; face build ups and machining to OEM specifications in shop and field work

 

Requirements:

 

  • Millwright Journeyperson Ticket (must be in good standing)
  • Machinist Journeyperson Ticket (must be in good standing)
  • Common Safety Orientation (CSO)
  • CSTS
  • Energy Safety Canada Approved Confined Space Entry & Monitor
  • Energy Safety Canada Elevated Work Platform/Ariel Work Platform
  • Energy Safety Canada Approved Fall Protection
  • WHMIS 2015
  • H2S Awareness
  • Overhead Crane
  • Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE)Training certification
  • Valid Full Class 5 Driver’s License- No restrictions
  • 3 Year’s Driver’s Abstract
