Jardeg is recruiting a Chemical Handler to join the SUNCOR Firebag maintenance team on site near Fort McMurray, Alberta. This is a temporary position on an 8 and 6 rotation, DAY shift. Start date is on July 21,2026 and the position will potentially end on December 31st, 2026

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe handling, storage, transfer, and inventory control of chemicals used in industrial maintenance and operations while ensuring compliance with site safety procedures and environmental requirements.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Check the lime/magox feed rates, keep the auger spouts free from plugging up, replace temporary hoses and diaphragm pumps, perform acid flush chemical cleans weekly, check the chemical silo levels
  • Monitor the soda ash system, replace the super sacks daily by using the overhead crane, keep the auger spout free from plugging up
  • Maintain the correct dosage of flocculant using the manual mixing tank, keep hoses from plugging, replace temporary diaphragm pump
  • Maintain correct dosage of coagulant
  • Perform house keeping duties in the building and chemical silos
  • Offload chemical trucks including acid and caustic
  • Perform minor maintenance activities on the chemical systems
  • Collect samples as requried

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Previous experience handling industrial chemicals in an oil sands, industrial, or maintenance environment.
  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work in a camp-based FIFO environment.
  • Satisfactory completion of site access requirements, including drug and alcohol testing.
  • Mask Fit Test
  • Class 5 Drivers License
  • 3 years' Drivers Abstract
  • Satisfactory completion of a Pre-Access Drug and Alcohol Test

  • Energy Safety Canada CSO or Common Safety Orientation
  • Energy Safety Canada Fall Protection
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) training certificate
  • Respiratory Protective Equipment training certificates
  • Forklift
  • WHMIS
