Jardeg is recruiting Machinist Journeypersons with Millwright Journeyperson (dual ticketed) to join the Heartland Constructors for maintenance position at the Imperial Oil Kearl site in Fort MacKay, Alberta. Charter flights are provided from Calgary or Edmonton to site. Shift schedules will be on a 14/14 rotation, 12 hours per day. While working on-site, workers will be staying at the Wapasu camp which will provide hot meals, lodging, workout facilities, Wi-Fi, commissary and much more! Machinist operates computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools, such as lathes and milling machines, to cut and produce precision parts for machines, instruments, and tools. A goal of this position is to ensure effective production operations and procedures optimization.

 

To perform a typical machining task, Machinists:

  • Study specifications, charts, drawings or sample parts to determine the machining operation to be performed,
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances and prepare working sketches if necessary,
  • Measure and mark metal and other materials,
  • Set up and operate tools, which may be computer numerically controlled, to perform precision machining operations, and,
  • Fit parts to mechanisms and verify dimensions.

 

Responsibilities: In general, but not limited to:

  • Set up, operate, and monitor various machine tools, including CNC equipment, to perform precision machining tasks according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Inspect, measure, and test completed parts to ensure they meet dimensional and quality standards; troubleshoot and repair machines as needed.
  • Align and secure fixtures, tools, and materials; program and adjust machine controls to achieve desired feed, speed, and performance.
  • Support the full lifecycle of metalworking projects—from planning and layout to fabrication, assembly, and testing.
  • Design and fabricate custom tooling or experimental parts, and install mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic components as required for specialized projects.

 


Minimum Requirements:

  • Provincial or Red Seal Machinist and Millwright Journeyperson
  • Previous Maintenance Services experience (e.g. Steady state, Turnaround, Shutdown, Outage, etc.).
  • Previous experience working in a mine.
  • Experience operating CLIMAX tooling and CLIMAX line boring equipment. 
  • Line Boring experience including bore build-up.
  • Mobile field machining experience.
  • Standard First Aid (Level A or C), in-class 2 day course
  • Basic Rigging (In-person course)
  • ESC Fall Protection
  • ESC Confined Space
  • Satisfactory Drug & Alcohol Test
  • Mask Fit Test
  • Valid Canadian Driver’s License
  • Other safety ticket(s) and orientation(s) required, as per the project team
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
