Heartland Constructors is currently hiring HVAC Technicians to join the Imperial Oil Kearl Lake Mine Maintenance project team on site near Fort MacKay, Alberta. This is a long-term Maintenance role until 2023; Shift schedule is 14 days on, 14 days off.


HVAC Technician Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance work involving checking all parts of a system, lubricating moving parts and monitoring the refrigerant charge.
  • Diagnosing and fixing unit problems by replacing or repairing controls, electric wiring or other parts.
  • Repairing heating equipment, troubleshoot gas-fired equipment and calibrate all gas-related controls.
  • Responsible for delivery of excellent customer service and sustaining high levels of customer satisfaction.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Provincial Journeyperson or Red Seal Certification.
  • Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS-09 or 2020) Certification.
  • First Aid - Standard Level Certification.
  • Aerial Work Platform (AWP).
  • Energy Safety Canada Certified Fall Protection.
  • HVAC diagnostic experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, in addition to read and interpret drawings and blueprints.
  • Experience using testing equipment.
  • Experience with startups of new or adjusted.
  • Driver’s License and a clean 3 Year Driver’s Abstract. 
  • Fit Test.



  • Experience working with HVAC units on mining electric shovels.
  • Experience driving in an open pit mine environment.


COVID Requirements:
This is a fly-in/fly-out position and as such will be subject to the Government of Canada’s mandatory COVID-19 vaccination requirements:

  • As per Federal guidelines, as of December 1st, 2021, anyone who is to board a charter flight must be able to provide proof of full vaccination (+14 days).
  • Please ensure you bring proof with you to the flight center and allow for at least 2 hours prior to flight departure.
  • Additionally, anyone accessing the IOL Kearl Site will also require full vaccination (full course plus 14 days).
