Position Scope
BFI is looking for Structural Superintendents to join our team at our Dow Chemicals in Fort Saskatchewan.
Site: Dow Chemicals
Hourly Rate: $57.00 - $67.00
Start Date: September 15, 2026
Shift schedule: 10 days on 4 days off
Accommodation: Locals preferred however LOA is available for non-locals
Experience Required:
- Journeyperson Ironworker certification required; Red Seal endorsement preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in structural steel, heavy industrial, mining, energy, petrochemical, commercial, or large-scale construction projects. Extensive knowledge of structural steel erection, rigging, heavy lifts, bolted and welded connections, miscellaneous metals installation, and construction sequencing.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a Superintendent, General Foreman, or field leadership role managing multiple crews and disciplines. Proven ability to lead large craft workforces, supervisors, and subcontractors.
- Proven experience planning and executing structural steel erection projects ranging from small maintenance outages to large capital construction projects.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Advanced Work Packaging (AWP), Construction Work Packages (CWPs), Installation Work Packages (IWPs), and execution planning methodologies.
- Understanding of project controls, productivity measurement, earned value concepts, cost awareness, and schedule performance management.
- Proven ability to develop detailed work packages including:
- Scope breakdowns
- Resource loading and manpower forecasting
- Equipment and crane planning
- Material management and logistics plans
- Risk assessments and mitigation strategies
- Quality and inspection requirements
- Sequencing and turnover planning
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings, structural steel fabrication drawings, lift studies, erection plans, and work-face planning principles.
- Strong safety leader with working knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health & Safety legislation, industry best practices, and client-specific safety requirements. Experience leading incident investigations, hazard assessments, field-level risk assessments, and safety improvement initiatives.
All successful candidates MUST provide the following items prior to confirmation of their start date:
- CSTS-09 or CSTS 2020
- WHMIS 2015
- Fall Protection (Energy Safety Canada)
- Elevated Work Platform (Energy Safety Canada)
- Confined Space Entry (Energy Safety Canada)
- Journeyperson Certificate
- Valid class 5 Driver's License
- Drivers abstract - must be a minimum of 3 years and within 30 days
- Other certification may be required based on site requirements
Successful candidates must:
- Be proficient in English, both verbally and written
- Undergo and successfully pass the following testing:
- Breath Alcohol Test
- Urine Drug Test
