Job Description:
Summary:
The Trades Trainee position is an entry-level role that is intended to provide support to the crew and job along with supervised exposure to the Powerline trade. This role provides the Trainee an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and basic job skills to make an informed decision on whether to pursue the trade and enter the Apprenticeship Program.
Various locations across BC: Coquitlam, Abbotsford, Kamloops, Prince George
Responsibilities:
- Under the direction of a qualified Journeyman or Sub-Foreman, a Trades Trainee may:
- Use hand tools
- Identify materials
- Work as a ground person & material handle
- Dig pole holes, anchors, etc.
- Perform labour-type work in pole setting and URD
- Operate bucket and boom trucks
- Climb
- Install and pull on cold construction
- Frame poles on the ground
- Assists in warehouse cleanliness, recycling and waste disposal
- Operate forklifts, carts, dollies and other equipment as required
- Assist with snow removal and yard access requirements
- Load, unload and move materials around the worksite
- Maintain clean and organized work environment
- Assist with maintaining a safe work environment and adhere to occupational health and safety regulations
- Participate in health and safety related duties
- Other related duties as required
Requirements:
- Able to work independently in a busy environment
- Positive attitude and a willingness to learn
- Able to work effectively with others
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Able to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) safely and efficiently
- Able to crouch and bend through the shift
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Physical dexterity
- Capable of working at heights, confined spaces, trenches and excavations
- Good hand-eye coordination
- Precise and detailed in work
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- A high commitment to personal safety and the safety of others
- Strong “can-do” approach to work
- Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or a government recognized high school equivalency
- Class 3 Drivers Licence with air required (Class 1 preferred)
- Math 11 or higher program
- Physics 11 or higher program
- English 12
- BC Hydro Electric Utility Fundamentals (online course)
- Forklift Operator Certification an asset
- Experience running construction equipment an asset
Working Environment:
- Work both indoors and outdoors
- Overtime may be required
- Travel to off-site locations may be required
- Hazards associated with the trade
2025 rate: $35.13/hour
